The search for Soweto’s next beauty queen has officially begun with the launch of the Miss Soweto 2017, sponsored by White Star Super Maize Meal, on the 1 July 2017. Eligible ladies who are between the ages of 18 and 24 years with dreams of wearing this prestigious crown are invited to enter the pageant online. In its 39th year, the Miss Soweto extravaganza is one of the most highly anticipated events on the calendar and this year promises to be no different.
”At White Star, we are passionate about enrichment both on a nutritional and personal level, which is why Miss Soweto is a pageant that remains close to our hearts. By providing a platform for young women to empower themselves with the mentorship and guidance programmes that come with the title, the Miss Soweto pageant provides a shining example of how we can all make a positive and lasting contribution to our communities. Having supported this prestigious event for eight years now, we are proud to once again be associated with the Miss Soweto 2017 pageant,” says White Star marketing manager, Mokhele Makhothi.
“My proudest moment was when I was crowned Miss Soweto 2016, and from that day on I have been privileged to experience the growth and fulfilment that has come with representing Soweto and serving my community. The opportunities I have been presented with, throughout my reign, to empower myself as an individual will serve me for the rest of my life and I will never forget this incredible year. When I place my crown on the head of Miss Soweto 2017, I hope she too will carry out the vision of this pageant with the understanding that the title is about so much more than being a beauty queen”, adds Miss Soweto 2016, Nthabiseng Kgasi.
