An investigation is underway after four Sassa pension beneficiaries were given fake notes when they went to collect their monthly grants at in Akasia, Pretoria.
The South African Police Services say the unsuspecting pensioners discovered on Monday they had been given fake R100 notes when tellers at different stores told them their money would not be accepted.
The victims took the matter to the police and two employees of Sassa were taken in for questioning and then released.
The police’s Matthews Nkoadi said, “It’s not only In Akasia, apparently, it also happened in Soshanguve and also in Ga-Rankuwa. But our members are on it and it’s under investigation.”
